The actor will complete her hat-trick of special appearances with the Aneez Bazmee directorial this year reports Joginder Tuteja

MUMBAI: Mallika Sherawat began year 2007 gyrating to the Turkish flavoured ‘Maiyya maiyya’ number alongside Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Guru’. She followed this with a scorching ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ ‘Aap Kaa Surroor—The Moviee’ in the middle of the year.

With ‘Welcome’, she ends 2007 with her third guest appearance as she plays the role of a bombshell who spoils Akshay Kumar’s celebration with Katrina Kaif by claiming to be his fiancée. Buzz is that even though Mallika has a small role in the film, it was so humorous that she was game for it after the first narration. Agrees director Anees Bazmee, “ When I approached her for the role, she said she didn’t want any more discussions; she just wanted to do the film.”

Though grapevine has been abuzz around her rumoured 1 crore remuneration for ‘Aap Kaa Surroor’, Mallika was most co-operative when it came to allotting dates for the film. Anees adds, “She wasn’t even finicky about the price she wanted for the film. She is one of those actors for whom a role is above everything else!”

Talking about her performance in the film, the director keeps his fingers crossed. “She is the surprise package of the film. As an actor, she has grown so much over the years. Last year we saw a fresh performance from her in ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’ where she broke her image. Finally, she has got her due and people are looking at her differently,” says Bazmee.

Releasing on December 21 all over, ‘Welcome’ is a Firoz Nadiadwala laughter show. The film is about a young man Rajiv (Akshay Kumar), a simpleton who is in love with Sanjana (Katrina Kaif). Her brothers, Hong Kong based mafia dons Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar), Majnu (Anil Kapoor) and Sikander (Feroz Khan) are in agreement with the match too, before Mallika arrives on the scene and announces herself as Rajiv’s fiancée! What follows is absolute chaos.

Mallika shot to fame with her 17 kisses act in ‘Khwahish’ and later followed it up with the hit extramarital thriller ‘Murder’.
